Coordinate with the Tranquility Necklace
The Tranquility Clip Earrings feature vintage intaglio cabochons; each depicts a seated, golden Buddha-like figure against a dark red background. These lovely cabochons are set in antique brass settings, and antique gold lotus teardrops dangle below.
Intaglio is a technique in which an image is carved or engraved into gemstone, crystal, or other material. It is, essentially, a cameo in reverse. It was quite useful in centuries past, when designs were carved into the tops of rings and used to make a raised image in soft wax in order to seal a letter.
In these intaglios, the images are carved into the backs of the cabochons and hand-painted. This gives the images a three-dimensional quality when viewed from the front. The cabochons have smooth domed tops and the colors remain vibrant. In certain light, you will see some slight differences in the shininess of the background paint, but they do not detract from the beauty of these earrings, and they are not unusual in vintage intaglios (please see photos).

All of our clip earrings are made with comfort and style in mind. To minimize discomfort, our clip earrings are constructed with a large focal (usually a gemstone cabochon, intaglio, or cameo) at the front of a clip with a large round pad (at least 13mm in diameter). This construction allows for pressure to be distributed to a wider area of the earlobe, eliminating the "pressure point" discomfort that can often come with screwbacks and smaller clips.
