Mayan Temple Clip Earrings

When I found these peridot-colored intaglio cabochons, I fell in absolute love! These amazing intaglios absolutely reminded me of Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark! They seem to glow, as if lit from within.

Intaglio is a technique in which an image is carved or engraved into gemstone, crystal, or other material. It is, essentially, a cameo in reverse. It was quite useful in centuries past, when designs were carved into the tops of rings and used to make a raised image in soft wax in order to seal a letter.

These intaglios are vintage green glass with a design impressed against a black background. They were made in Germany, and the glowy quality can be attributed to the application of gold foil on the backs of the cabochons. They are quite textured, and the designs remind me very much of ancient Mayan art.

Approximate length (top to bottom): about 2-1/4 inches

Approximate width: 3/4 inch (widest part of the hoop)

Cabochon dimensions: 18 X 13mm (3/4 inch X just over 1/2 inch)

Clips: Silver-plated stainless steel

All of our clip earrings are made with comfort and style in mind. To minimize discomfort, our clip earrings are constructed with a large focal (usually a gemstone cabochon, intaglio, or cameo) at the front of a clip with a large round pad (at least 13mm in diameter). This construction allows for pressure to be distributed to a wider area of the earlobe, eliminating the "pressure point" discomfort that can often come with screwbacks and smaller clips.
