Equinox Necklace

IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER: This necklace is intended to be worn by adults only, and should not be worn by or provided to children. Please use caution with small beads, including amber beads, as they pose a choking hazard for children and pets.

The Equinox Necklace is the perfect marriage between amber and jet. The combination of these two gemstones has been prized throughout history.

Amber is a hardened form of tree resin (usually from pine trees) that was produced millions of years ago. It comes in a variety of colors, and is generally found near the shores of the Baltic Sea. The honey-colored amber beads used in this necklace are from Poland. Amber is sometimes referred to as "solid sunlight."

Jet is a type of lignite, which is a gemstone in the coal family. It is the result of wood that has changed form under extreme pressure over millions of years. Jet has been referred to as "black amber" and "witch's amber," and the term "jet-black" is a reference to this gemstone.

The combination of these two gemstones is thought to be significant, given that both of these substances can acquire an electrical charge upon contact. Through history, it was thought by some that the combination of amber and jet was the only gemstone combination that could produce a full spectrum of electrical charge, from positive to negative. Thus, the combination of the two symbolizes balance.

The Equinox Necklace features amber and jet beads with a centerpiece of three jet teardrops (a large center one, and two smaller ones). The necklace is designed to be very adjustable, with an overall length of between just over 14 inches and just under 21 inches (the gold-plated lobster claw clasp can attach to any link along the chain). The chain is gold-finished steel.

Given the nature of gemstones, please allow for variations in color and markings.
